International Arbuzov Prize 2005 in Chemistry - to Professor Tohoku Yoshifuji Masaaki

RT President Mintimer Shaimiev signed a decree “On the International Arbuzov Prize Reward in Organophosphorous Chemistry”. Prize 2005 was awarded to the university Professor Tohoku Yoshifuji Masaaki (Sendai, Japan). He also has been conferred a “Laureate of the International Arbuzov Prize in Organophosphorous Chemistry”.

The international Arbuzov Prize was established by RT President Mintimer Shaimiev in 1997, 120 years since Alexander Erminingeldovich Arbuzov was born, founder of this school. The Prize is awarded once in two years to the scholars, who made an outstanding contribution to phosphorous chemistry development. The first few awardees were: corresponding member of Russian Academy of Sciences Arkadiy Nikolaevich Pudovik (Kazan), Professor Lewis Quin (USA). Later it was given to such known scientists as Ian Mihalsky (Poland) in 1999, François Mateil (France) in 2001 and Edgar Nicke (Germany) in 2003.

This year awardee is Professor Masaaki Yoshifudji. He is one of the most outstanding and actively working chemists in phosphorous organics, one of the most vivid representatives of the modern organophosphorous school of Japan. Chemists all over the world still quote his description of the first phosphor-phosphor double bond made in 1981.
