Monument to outstanding actor Vasily Kachalov unveiled in Kazan

A monument to Vasily Kachalov, the outstanding Russian drama actor, one of founders of actor's school of the Moscow art theatre named after Chekhov was unveiled in atrium of the Kazan academic Russian Big drama theatre bearing his name. On opening of the monument first in Russia to Vasily Kachalov the delegation from A.Chekhov Moscow art theatre and descendants of the actor arrived in Kazan.

Vasily Kachalov performed on the Kazan stage during three seasons - from 1897 to 1900 when he received the invitation in troupe of the Moscow art theatre. Besides drama roles, he frequently performed in concerts with Pushkin, Schiller's works. There is an opinion, that V.Kachalov dreamed to play Chatsky's role in Kazan, whose monologue he used to read out during solo performances. It did not took place, however in year of celebrating the 130-anniversary from birthday of the actor the literary hero himself to a certain extent played Vasily Kachalov, the sculpture represents the actor in Chatsky's suit with the roses thrown to his foots.

Kazan is proud that here Vasily Kachalov was born as the actor, his scenic pseudonym fixed here. And that Kachalov's talent as the actor blossomed in Kazan not randomly . During same time Maxim Gorky, Feodor Shalyapin lived and created in Kazan that determined a creative atmosphere of the city, - the RT Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of culture Zilya Valeyev said after a snow-white coverlet was unveiled from the monument made by sculptor Asiya Minullina.
